FXE Super Glide

Used — running, mostly original

A genuine AMF-era Shovelhead Super Glide — Harley-Davidson's original factory custom. The Super Glide (FX) was Willie G. Davidson's idea for 1971: take the big-twin FL frame and drivetrain and pair it with the leaner Sportster front end to build a stripped-down cruiser straight off the factory floor. The 'E' in FXE marks the electric start that joined the kickstarter for 1974 — so this one fires up at the button or the kick. 1975 sits squarely in the AMF years (American Machine and Foundry owned Harley-Davidson from 1969 to 1981), and the bike wears that history honestly. The numbers: a 1200cc (74 cubic inch) Shovelhead with matching engine and frame numbers, and just 4,835 miles showing on the speedo. Four-speed transmission, disc brakes front and rear, a Bendix-Zenith carburetor, and Avon Speedmaster tires. It starts up and runs strong. We bought it from the original owner's family, and it has been kept very clean over the years. The fenders and tank carry an AMF era-matching repaint; the seat has a few minor nicks. It comes with the AMF license plate bracket, highway pegs, and the factory helmet (scratched from years of being shuffled around the garage). Pick up in Leander, Texas, or we'll help arrange buyer-paid shipping anywhere in the US or worldwide. Message us for more photos or a start-up and running video.

How we sort, photograph, and describe what we sell

Everything on this site has been through our shop in Austin, Texas. We photograph in daylight, describe what's right and what's wrong, and answer condition questions before you buy — not after. If a part is cracked, dented, helicoiled, or freshened up with bondo by a previous owner, the listing says so. If we don't know something, we say "we don't know" rather than guess.

  • Photos are of the actual item, never stock images.
  • VIN / serial numbers listed when present; we run NICB reports on titled engines on request.
  • Condition language is calibrated against the photos, not the opposite.
  • WhatsApp video walkarounds before you commit — just ask.

Buying a Shovelhead

What to check before you ride away

Shovelhead Big Twins are forgiving bikes but they earn their keep through small details. Top of the list: matching engine and frame numbers (we list them when present), cam case for hairline cracks behind the lifter blocks, signs of oil sweat at the lifter bores, and the condition of the rocker boxes. Twelve-volt later '70s bikes get hot in Texas summer — we note any signs of charging-system rebuilds. Most Shovels we sell have a known history; we hand over what we have.
